Announcing the new Clearwater Risk Analysis™ Desktop/Laptop Media Type

HIPAA Risk Analysis

At Clearwater Compliance LLC we are keeping an eye on the threat landscape and regularly updating our Clearwater HIPAA Risk Analysis Algorithm™. That risk algorithm represents our latest research on the threats, vulnerabilities and controls that should be included in a HIPAA compliant risk analysis and an effective security risk management program.  Our goal is to help you protect your sensitive electronic Protected Health Information and stay compliant.

Recently there has been a convergence of controls and safeguards for desktops and laptops.  Organizations are implementing very similar or the same controls on both types of devices.  Therefore the security and compliance experts at Clearwater have added a Desktop/Laptop media type in the Clearwater HIPAA Risk Analysis™ software.

What is the Desktop/Laptop media and how does it differ from the separate media for desktops and laptops?

As we mentioned, the trend is for more mature security environments have the same security controls for desktops and laptops.  If your organization does use the same security controls on desktops and laptops, then use the combined Desktop/Laptop media on the Asset Inventory Form.  You will not be compromising the quality of your risk analysis and you can save a lot of time, versus a separate analysis for desktops and laptops.

Protected Health Information Inventory

If your desktops and laptops differ in areas that have a significant impact on security such as encryption, malware, patching, access controls, configuration, operating system… then it is recommended you use the separate desktop and laptop media for your risk analysis.
