James S. Mathis, J.D., CHC, CHP – Regulatory and Compliance Expert
Jim is a veteran healthcare industry attorney who has served both in-house and with leading law firms, as transactional, operations and regulatory counsel. He has been lead compliance officer for publicly traded companies in multiple healthcare segments, most recently as Chief Compliance Officer for Omnicare, Inc., the nation’s largest institutional pharmacy, located in Cincinnati, OH.
Following private practice with both large law firms and as a solo practitioner, where he gained experience in litigation, insolvency, lending and regulatory law, Jim worked for Gambro Healthcare, Lakewood, CO, and Fresenius Medical Care, Lexington, MA, large integrated manufacturers of dialysis products and services, and Waller, Lansden, Dortch and Davis, the largest healthcare law firm in Nashville, TN.
As a recognized expert in healthcare compliance, Jim speaks frequently to trade associations and professional gatherings, including meetings of the American Bar Association, the Health Care Compliance Association and the American Health Lawyers Association.
Before attending law school, Jim taught high school Latin and has continued his engagement in education, most recently by serving as an Adjunct Online Professor teaching health law and health management to both graduate and undergraduate students at Chapman University in Orange, CA, as well as working in course development and assisting traditional faculty in adapting course material to the online format..
His volunteer community involvement includes serving in leadership positions with the Comprehensive Care Center, a non-profit HIV clinic, and his urban neighborhood association.
