The safe storage, transport and access of patient information between healthcare organizations and their partners has never been such a hot topic, with several high profile breaches hitting the headlines in 2011. The implementation of mandated audits to monitor organizations’ compliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security and the notification requirements in the event of a breach has also caused interest and concern around this issue to rise to a critical level. The NTC Health care Privacy and Security Consortia on March 8th will bring together some of the nation’s leading experts to discuss these issues.
The audits are being carried out by KPMG under contract with the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) within the Department of Health and Human Services. KPMG is the primary sponsor of the NTC Health care Privacy and Security Consortia.
One of the key results from the NTC Health care Privacy and Security Consortia will be a whitepaper derived from round table discussions between a leading panel of experts in the fields of health care information compliance, auditing and security standards and will set out best practices and recommendations for organizations.
HIPAA-HITECH compliance solutions provider Clearwater Compliance joins technology giants Dell and Intel in sponsoring this half-day event designed to develop a whitepaper that will speak to how the health care community can ensure that data is private and secure even when it is not under their control. The event will include a series of roundtable discussions.
Clearwater Compliance CEO and Founder, Bob Chaput, CISSP, CIPP-US is also participating in the panel of experts. With over thirty years’ experience working with data security, privacy, integrity, and accessibility, he is no stranger to the challenges faced by healthcare organizations, and has seen the growing challenges posed by the rapid advances in technology and the increased digitization of patient records.
“Safeguarding individuals’ personal and intimate health information is an extremely critical and basic requirement of all Covered Entities and their Business Associates” said Mr. Chaput. “We are very proud to be involved in this important work every day and in this NTC event. The timing of the event is perfect as we will be returning from Washington DC that week following the release and publication of the American National Standards Institute Report on “The Financial Impact of Breached Protected Health Information: A Business Case for Enhanced PHI Security”. Clearwater Compliance is the Premium Co-Sponsor of that project.” Clearwater Compliance is a Premium Co-Sponsor of The ANSI PHI Project.
